The Locomotive No. 168 was built in 1883 for General Palmer's new railroad and pulled passenger trains from the Front Range to the San Juan gold fields. The C&TSRR operates historic steam trains on 64 miles of Palmer's original mainline to the goldfields.
Colorado Springs owns No. 168, and has agreed to lease the locomotive to the C&TSRR for 45 years. Part of this agreement is to rehabilitate No. 168 back to operating condition and to be used with a historic car fleet to run on special occasions, demonstrating Palmer's dream and vision.
Donations will be used to offset the costs of transporting, rehabilitation and running this historic piece of equipment.
