Steam Rotary DVD

$30.00

Experience the drama of the only operational narrow gauge steam rotary snow plow in the United States which makes a rare plow run through the Southern Colorado Rockies. Steam Rotary number OY is called upon to plow from Chama, NM to Colorado over the 10,000 foot Cumbres Pass on May 4th and 5th 1991. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR must plow the line to enable trains to operate by opening day. The rotary has not operated on the line since 1983 but our camera crews were there to capture all the spectacular action in 1991. The sound is as dramatic as the sights since a pair of 2-8-2's numbers 487 and 488 push the rotary through the snow. There is great slipping, flying snow and with three exhausts it is truly a sight to behold. The plow works hard on a 12 foot high snow slide for nearly an hour before finally breaking through and onward to the summit of Cumbres. In addition you will see crews digging out the switches at Cumbres for the siding and the wye. Learn how the plow is operated and see inside this unusual machine as the chief mechanical officer gives us a tour. This tape contains professional editing, color and live audio. In the space we have it is difficult to describe this fantastic and rare spectacle. This will be one of your favorite railroad videos!
